Building community & confidence
Denise R. Wheeler
Denise R. Wheeler, our “Beginning Home Repair” instructor for over 11 years, also teaches
Intermediate Home Repair. Denise reports that she loves teaching these classes.
Denise grew up in the construction trade, going to work as her father’s assistant (ditch
digger and wire puller) at the age of 12.
She put herself through a Masters in Women’s Studies working full time as an electrician. When Denise decided to go back for another Masters in Bicultural Human Development, she began a home repair business. Denise has also worked on and off in social service and construction for thirty-some years.
Denise coordinates a non-profit building group, CREW, which stands for “Community Renovation Empowering Women.” CREW builds and renovates structures for agencies that serve women and children. Denise teaches the skills, and the group does the work. CREW has been helping build community—and community agencies—for eight years.
Denise’s current classes may include:
Home & Garden
Home Repair: Basic
Home Repair: Intermediate
Reduce Your Use, Your Impact and Save Money
