Swimming Instructor
for Adults & Children

Julia Mummert

Julia Mummert has figured out how to combine quality family time with swimming classes — and so have her students! Julia instructs parents or caregivers together with their young children, ages 6 months to 7 years. This is in addition to her Beginning to Advanced courses for adult swimmers. Julia draws on her skills as an elementary school teacher and as a competitive swimmer for Louisiana State University in teaching her classes.

Julia says, “I try to keep my classes all about fun. I don’t push my students. I build on what they enjoy and then expand on those skills. I want their swimming skills to be available to my students any time they are in the water.”

Julia has always loved the water. She “lived in the pool” when she was a child and taught her first swimming lesson at the age of 13. This naturally gifted teacher has taught swimming classes for Continuing Education since 1994.

Julia was pleasantly surprised with her first parent/child classes. “Much younger and smaller children can get into the pool when their parents are in the class. The children get so much from the one-on-one attention. The babies extend their trust in their caregiver to being in the water, gaining confidence and learning what to do.” Most parent/child classes are family events. “People call me to ask if their loved ones can come. They want their family and friends to share their experience. The cameras come out. It’s a memory for family and friends to make together.”

Julia notes, “The bond between child and caretaker is brought out in the pool. It’s a wonderful thing to see.”

Julia's current classes may include:

Swimming Level II Swimming Parent/Child (ages 3-7 years)
Swimming Level IV Swimming Parent/Child (ages 6 months - 3 years)
